An ApplicationThe likely reason God told M&A to turn their walking sick into a snake was specifically because this was a common practice of the time (EX 7:11, 22). However, actually doing something, especially as extreme as swallowing the others, was God demonstrating He operates on a whole other level. Similarly, turning a jug of water to blood is one thing, doing it to the entire Nile was another. In other words, God can do everything you can do, only He can do it better. Pharaoh wasn't likely randomly...

Connect the Dots...on his way to the Nile, he was probably going to offer a daily sacrifice to it, treating it as an idol. Hence God using it as His first object lesson to say: your gods are fake, I'm real, listen and obey. He says the same to us today. / Jewish oral tradition preserved the names of the magicians and they made it into scripture in 2TI 3:8-9. / This plague will be used again by God in REV 16:3.
